This particular species of diatom has been mistaken for Coscinodiscus. It is in fact Paralia Sulcata, a chain diatom. This diatom is not Coscinodiscus. This is a video of a Coscinodiscus Diatom linked in a chain, laying on its side (side view). Coscinodiscus are often seen in single cells, and appear as round disks.
